What Is 1.5″ Metal Roof Decking?
This term refers to metal deck panels with a depth of 1.5 inches. The three main types—A, F, and B—are non-composite, smooth-profile panels designed for structural use in roofing systems. They provide support for insulation and are typically topped with built-up roofing material.

What Is Type A Metal Deck?

Also known as Narrow Rib deck, Type A metal deck features a 1.5″ depth and closely spaced ribs, with approximately 1 inch between them (exact dimensions vary by manufacturer).

As the oldest of the three profiles, Type A is now primarily used for repair work to match existing installations. It is not recommended for new construction, as Type B deck offers better economy and structural performance. Sourcing Type A can be challenging due to limited production.

What Is Type F Metal Deck?
Known alternatively as the Intermediate Rib deck, Type F is another 1.5″ deep panel developed after Type A. It is typically 36 inches wide, with ribs spaced about 1⅞ inches apart, though dimensions can vary by maker.
